We here at the Merriman Daily Times strive to report our news in an unbiased and efficient manner. However, occasionally we print information that could be viewed as inflammatory or offensive. Apparently this was the case with the article entitled "What, a Temple? Where you Say?"
We have received many complaints and protests from concerned citizens regarding the statement that the Gila Valley's main claims to fame were the new (teeny, tiny) Home Depot and SuperWal-Mart.
In order to be unbiased and balanced, we would like to print some comments received in regards to the aforementioned article.
"What the heck? The Gila Valley has more going for it than just Wal-Mart!"
"Yeah, we have Eastern Arizona College and the (copper) mine, too!"
"And did you hear they're trying to make it Eastern Arizona University? It'll be a 4-year school soon!" (they've been trying to accomplish this since I went there 8 years ago!)
"We have an Ashley Furniture store now!"
(names withheld to protect privacy- you know who you are!)
I suppose that we here at the Merriman Daily Times stand corrected, and would like to apologize to anyone that was offended by our article. We will try to be more considerate in the future.
By the way, the Gila Valley is also fortunate to have some guy named Earl the Magician in residence there. Now that's what I call big time!
(Sorry, guys, but it's Safford, not New York City!)

Hey what about Mt Graham, the endangered red squire, and the Mt Graham Observatory??? We are very blessed to live in this beautiful area and now we will have a temple and you won't! Ha ha.
I mean red squirrel.
This certainly isn't New York City and aren't we glad for that!
Believe me...we are well aware of our lack of shopping and other "bit city" stuff, but we are also very grateful for the shopping that we DO have and the "big city stuff" that we DON'T have (you can fill in what kind of things those are).
As for the decision to build a temple in the Gila Valley...that has been a LOOOONG time coming and I just hope that we are all grateful and diligent in using it.
Love to all,
Mom
P.S. Can't wait to see you ALL this weekend.
What?! Why did I not know about Ashley furniture store?!
If Wal-Mart is the highlight on the list... it doesn't really matter what else goes with it.
Reality hurts?
