Yee Haw!

Well cowboys and cowgirls, it's that time of year again. Time to break out our tube tops and wife-beaters and hit the county fair! This year was better than ever because we went on County Redneck Day and watched the tractor pulls, as well as the Destruction Derby. (They call it that to make it sound more city-fied, but all us rednecks know that it's really our national past time-- the DEMOLITION DERBY!!!)
They had a class for the garden-size as well as the full-size tractors. This kid was too cute!

You Know You're a Redneck When... (Merriman edition)
1. Your KIDS would rather look at all the animals than buy Dora the Explorer or Spiderman inflatable hammers.
2. Your son actually squeezes through a hole in the fence to get closer to the tractors DURING the tractor pull.
3. Your son and husband spend 1 WHOLE HOUR looking at little engines that run and run but don't actually do anything. (And they wanted to stay longer!)
4. You show up early to the Demolition Derby to get the best seats in the house, and are ticked off when the big tall guy with the cowboy hat sits in front of you anyway.
5. You can spend 4 hours at the fair and never buy a treat. Instead, you sneak in Wal-Mart fruit snacks and gas station peanut packs for the kids to munch on. Afterward, you actually use a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a hamburger at Carl's Jr.
6. You plop down in a garden swing display for 20 minutes. When the salesman asks you what you're interested in, you say "Nothing, I just needed to rest my feet for a few minutes."
7. Your daughter walks right past every booth with blinking hats and foam lizards-on-a-stick, but begs for 5 minutes to be able to use the Make-Your-Own-Rope machine.

Frank LOVED the goats. That is, until 1 of them started eating his shirt. You should've seen how fast he got out of that pen!
Well, these were just a few true-life experiences from last night. But don't worry- we're going back tomorrow (on the cheap ride night, ya'll) to ride rides and eat all of the carnival crap we can fit in our bellies. I'm sure we'll have lots more tales from redneck-ville then.
Poor Frank got sunscreen in his eyes and couldn't even hardly see.

See? In redneck land, EVERYTHING is backwards!

Wish we were there to join you tonight along with every other Mormon family...

Go on a couple extra rides for us, and make sure to eat chili cheese fries right before. ;)

You crack me up Kris! You're so creative. Looks lie you guys had fun even if you felt like rednecks. I think there's a little bit of that on all of us who are from Safford!

Well, you can tell we live in very different places- our state fair that has some of those things (some but not all) happens at the very end of the summer. I think the week before Labor day- Labor day is the last day. In fact, that was Tyson and my first date- ah, the memories....
